Playstation 4 to Stomp the New Xbox and WiiU in to The Ground?

By Arif Aksit on March 4, 2012 8:30 AM | Permalink |

Logo-Sony.jpg So far the rumors about the performance of the next generation consoles have been very  disappointing. With performance of the new Xbox said to be about 6-8 times as much as that of the 360. While the new WiiU is said to be about 20% slower. This is a tiny step compared to how much PC hardware has advanced since the launch of the Xbox 360 and the PS3. And remember, the PC was already more powerful than either console when they launched, although the difference was only about 40%. However, if you are like me and dislike stagnation in the gaming world, rejoice because it seems that the Playstation 4 will still push the possibilities of what is possible for consoles. Hit the jump for more details and discussion.

Words With Friends? More like, Crack With Friends

By Jon Partridge on February 23, 2012 11:30 AM | Permalink |

wordswithfriends.jpgI honestly, really, do not understand how Words With Friends is probably now my most played game. And I'm not a big fan of casual games, let alone social games. Taking the classic board game Scrabble and putting it into a modern day format that is accessible almost anywhere, Zynga have made a game that literally is almost as addictive as crack, and as you fester over what tiles you have at hand and juggling multiple games with several people across the world, you begin to wonder where the hell the time has gone.

As I'm wasting time on my Tube journey into central London, I'm waiting for my friend to pick his move whilst he tries to write his essay, but he is of course, distracted by the Facebook version. As the actual underground section of my train eventually engulfs my carriage, I finally get a vibrating notification from my iPhone. I swipe to unlock, I see it is my move, and he has left a message saying, "goddamn, this is fucking addictive".

Let's Talk About Sex...

By Damir Halilović on June 27, 2010 7:20 PM | Permalink |

Sex sells stuff and that's no secret. I don't see anyone complaining about it... so I will do it. And before you scream "BRITTISH!" at me, let me say that I have nothing against sex, quite the contrary really. What I do have a problem with is forcing it into places where it doesn't belong.

"But sex makes everything better!" you might say. If that thought did cross your mind, please take a sharp object (a blunt object works as well, but you need to be very persistent) and remove your brain from your skull and go hand it over for adoption. The problem is as follows - game A is awesome, with engaging characters, epic storyline and marvelous gameplay. Then, one year later, the development studio decides that they can increase the sales of the second part by increasing the boob and ass count of the game by 40% while simultaneously decreasing the average cloth amount of every female (and male for political correctness) character in the game.

The Top 10 Male Badasses in Gaming

By Sean McCabe on June 17, 2010 6:25 PM | Permalink |

There are SPOILERS within this article however, keep in mind before continuing.

So this is my attempt now to list the top 10 badass videogame characters. To me being manly, or being "badass" is a little more complex than just being a hulking piece of killing meat. There are a few things that can qualify a character to me for this title, among them is their physical capability to fight, their intelligence, their attitude, their story roles/purpose and their look. Sometimes also there is an x-factor, a unique justification to keep in mind. So without further ado, let us dive head first into this pit of sweat, blood, and grit that is the top 10 badasses of gaming.

Retro Game of the Month: Rocket Knight Adventures

By Damir Halilović on June 12, 2010 5:48 PM | Permalink |

The SEGA Genesis was, I'm sure we can all agree, an awesome console. The amount of amazing titles rivals the SNES, and looking back at those times makes it just more of a shame to see SEGA in the state it is today. One particular game on that console has rocket bounced its way into this article today - Rocket Knight Adventures.

A low budget sequel titled Rocket Knight was recently released and while it didn't manage to re-capture the entire spirit of the original, it was still an incredibly fun game, putting Sparkster into yet another colorful adventure. We here at VGRC love retro games nearly as much as ourselves, and in that spirit I present to you with the original Rocket Knight Adventures (1993)

Sega CD versus Sony PlayStation 3

The archives of VGRC are vast, filled with articles dating back to 2003. One of the things I've been doing lately is cleaning up old articles and silently adding them back to the site for posterity. However, some of them deserve to be featured on our home page once more. So that aside, for those who missed it the first time around, check out our inaugural "Grudge Match." Sega CD versus PlayStation 3 after the jump.

10 Years of Dreamcast: Editor's Top Five Dreamcast Titles

By Dennis Wyman on September 9, 2009 12:13 AM | Permalink |

Screenshot from Crazy Taxi for the Sega Dreamcast On this day ten years ago, the Dreamcast, Sega's final foray into the gaming market as a platform maker, was unleashed onto an eager market. Sadly, not even two years later it was canned and, as we all know, Sega became a third party developer.

However, while it didn't exactly live up to Sega's expectations and was largely a bust for the company's hopes of continuing in the hardware market, the Dreamcast was far from a complete failure, as it was home to quite a few stellar games. Here, we remember, in no particular order, some of our favorite Dreamcast games, after the jump.

Top 10 Snakes in Gaming

By Dennis Wyman on August 25, 2009 1:38 AM | Permalink |

Ekans from the Pokemon SeriesDigging through my folder of old VGRC junk the other day, I stumbled across a handful (ok, a MOUNTAIN) of unfinished projects and article concepts that never saw the light of day, one of which included the article that you are about to read.

Dated 2006, the article has been in development hell for three years now. However, since not many snake-type characters have been introduced in gaming in the past three years, this list just as relevant and accurate as ever. So, I present to you, our list of the Top 10 Snakes in Gaming, after the jump.
