What am I talking about? Graffiti Research Lab, and their method of choice for painting your neighborhood walls: L.A.S.E.R. Tag.
Graffiti Research Lab, are, as they describe themselves on their website, "Outfitting graffiti artists with open source technologies for urban communication." English translation? They come up with fresh ways to display art and messages in a public setting, document them, and publish these methods and relevant software into the public domain for anybody to make use of.
One of their particular tricks is L.A.S.E.R. Tag, which makes use of a high-powered laser pointer, a camera, a computer and a projector. Simply put, you 'write' on a distant surface with the laser pointer. The camera, which is hooked up to the computer, watches this and sends to your computer. Software isolates the laser "dot" and traces it as it goes along, with the resulting drawing pushed out through your projector onto the surface. Confused? Watch the video below.
Detailed instructions and the needed software can be found through their website.
For more information on GRL, and their other projects, you can go to GraffitiResearchLab.com, or check them out on Wikipedia.
